Fran Snure Surprise 60th Birthday, Tucson, AZ, July 30, 2011
Ten or Twelve years ago, Rick and Fran Snure asked us to come to Douglas, Arizona to play for a dance/celebration in the lobby of the Gadsden Hotel. They were celebrating their son Roland’s graduation from medical school. There were over 300 people in attendance and a what a party it was.
About January of 2010, Roland, who has his medical practice in Silver City, NM, called me and said he’d like to book The Delk Band to play for a surprise birthday party for his mother on July 30, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona. Without hesitation I told Roland to put us down….we’d be there.
Roland worked on this surprise party for his mother, which was held at the Omni Resort in Tucson, for nearly two years. We showed up at the Omni about noon on July 30th to find Roland and his crew setting up the room and getting ready for the party.
That evening, Fran was to join Roland, his brothers Bill and Clay and other members of their family and a few close friends for a birthday supper at Bob’s Grill on the grounds of the resort only to find that there was not enough room at Bob’s so they would have to move to a larger room at the Omni for their dinner.
In the larger room at the Omni were about 150 of Fran’s friends, a mariachi band and The Delk Band waiting for Fran’s appearance. When the doors opened and Fran walked in, it could not have been a bigger surprise…..Fran was in disbelief. The mariachi’s struck up a favorite song of Fran’s and the party began.
It was a great evening of visiting with friends and dancing. Playing for events such as this is what makes “playing our dance music” so rewarding.
Kudos to Roland Snure for honoring his mother in this way.
